the TOFA Basketball Teams

The Mission Statement of TOFA is to preserve and enhance the overall Health and Wellness of the Pacific Islander Community in the Greater Sacramento Area by providing resources that support this initiative.

The TOFA Athletics Program (TAP) is designed to aid and encourage young Pacific Islanders to become more physically active by providing opportunities for organized athletic activities to the low-income families, and to help lower the high risk of obesity that threatens the future health of our Pacific Islander community.

According to the Asian and Pacific Islander Obesity Prevention Alliance (APIOPA), “Pacific Islanders have some of the highest overweight and obesity rates out of all ethnic groups. 68% of Pacific Islanders in the U.S. are overweight or obese...Pacific Islanders however are generally grouped together with Asians in obesity studies. Thus obesity among Pacific Islanders is often not recognized as a priority issue.”
